Anthropic just made running agents cheap enough to leave on all day
Anthropic shipped Claude Sonnet 5 on June 30, and the number that matters is not the benchmark, it is the price. It runs close to Opus 4.8 on reasoning, tool use and coding while costing $2 per million input tokens and $10 out through August. Anthropic built it to plan, drive a browser and work a terminal on its own, which is the exact profile of an agent you want running unattended. For an operator this changes the math on anything you shelved because the token bill was scary. Workflows that only penciled out on a cheap model can now run on a near-frontier one, so it is worth pulling those parked ideas back onto the desk.
